Vintage Caravan Magazine meets Australian Modern
Aug 10, 2012
The sun was shining on Greazefest 2012 for their annual event on Sunday 5 August at the Rocklea Showgrounds. The crowds flocked to enjoy a day of rockabilly bands, vintage fashion, car show, and collectable shopping at the 100 plus stalls. It’s also a good opportunity to catch up with old and new friends.
Australian Modern is a big fan of Vintage Caravan Magazine, and you’ll find the lovely Lisa and her caravan, both colour co-ordinated in pink, at a lot of shows around Australia. You can also pick up a funky Vintage Caravan Magazine tee shirt, or any back copies that you might have missed. Do yourself a favour and subscribe to Vintage Caravan Magazine www.vintagecaravan.com and support a local independent publication, or visit Lisa on the road.
I was also fortunate to be able to catch up with Arthur, the organiser of the Camperdown Cruise (Victoria), for a chat about the event and the line-up for this year’s growing weekend of activities on 26-28 October 2012 www.camperdowncruise.com Planning is also underway for a new event for regional Victoria in early 2013 (15-17 February). The Ballarat Beat Rockabilly Festival promises another celebration of music and style, which will draw guests and participants from all over Australia.
On the Brisbane scene there’s a new exhibition at the Queensland Museum (Southbank), Dressed by the Best: Fashion, Glamour & Gwen Gillam, something especially for vintage fashion enthusiasts. Gwen Gillam was known for her stylish, European inspired designs, and she became one of the most popular fashion designers in Brisbane during the 1950s and 1960s.
